Google Ads
DavidM - 13/7/07 at 11:23 PM

I've started to get Google ads displayed below the first post on each page of the site.
Is anyone else getting this? Is it a site thing or just me?

I don't like it, how do I get rid?

David

same here ,not keen to be honest but i suppose it must fund the site and hosting costs etc so i can live with it

scottc - 14/7/07 at 12:03 AM

Kind of agree with you both.

I don't like it. But agree it might help fund the cost of keeping the site going.

However, 6 months ago it was the contributor screen. Pay £5 and it will go away. Now its google Ad's in the middle of threads.....

ReMan - 14/7/07 at 12:17 AM

Ah I feel better now!

Having just got back from holiday, I noticed "the ad's" wondered if I should mention them, but having been away was to scared too, just in case I got the "keep up at the back" badge

No I don't like it.

blakep82 - 14/7/07 at 01:26 AM

yeah, i think we all get them,

to be honest, that and the page that mentions about donations for the site, while i completely understand why, i think its abit much...

britishtrident - 14/7/07 at 07:21 AM

I don't never seen a single one -- running Firefox with Adblock Plus

skydivepaul - 14/7/07 at 07:25 AM

i didnt even notice them until i read this thread

dont seem a problem to me

RazMan - 14/7/07 at 08:40 AM

It surely doesn't distract anyone that much does it? It just means you have to scroll down an extra half inch!

ReMan - 14/7/07 at 08:44 AM

Does'nt take much to distract me, thats why it took so long to build the car
Would'nt mind so much, but they don't really link to anything relevant, try "Locost Chassis" you'll see what I mean

ned - 14/7/07 at 09:02 AM

You also still have the banner at the bottom of the page and recently the banner at the top has had different adverts, just today I saw one advertising sportsbike fairing bolts - not relevant to this site imho.

Chris is obviously just trying to make some money to cover costs as he doesn't actively use/visit the site himself anymore.

Ned.

Just clicked on the locostbuilders link and guess what of the 10 websites listed only 1 has anything to do with kitcars. I suppose it is generating some income for Chris and only a small inconvenience.

matt.c - 14/7/07 at 10:17 AM

Dont mind the ads at the top of the page but the links i really dont like!

Fozzie - 14/7/07 at 10:51 AM

Yes.... ChrisW did some site 'fettling' on Thursday (12th)......

The 'new' Google thing does appear under the first post of a new thread.

The 'intrusion' as some of you seem to think it is, is only about 1/2" and clearly states 'Ads by Google' to the left of it........

Guess what?.......you don't have to click on the links........to read the replies!

All you have to do is scroll down a whole 1/2" extra!

It really isn't hard to do.......ya a bunch of big girls blouses!

how dare you, thats fat-ist, i'm not big, i'm comfortable with myself and i hope you'll remember that in future.

Come on folks, does it really make a difference? Feels like people will complain at anything at the moment. If i recall correctly this site was set up as someone (Chris) had enough of a previous forum. If this forum really is that bad ........ make a better one and after lots of bitching we'll either migrate or stay. From my point of view this site is pretty damn funky apart from a few argumentative people so i'll happily put up with an extra half scroll of the mouse.

Some of the ads are relevent as well, the current one at the bottom of my screen is for ford axle and gearbox parts.

Hammerhead - 14/7/07 at 11:19 AM

doesn't bother me. If the ads are irrelevant then chrisw is getting something for nothing.
If he gets a revenue stream from a small amount of advertising then great, why not?

BenB - 14/7/07 at 11:27 AM

Yes, they're annoying. I doubt many people will be inspired to click on them (they're pretty random links) in which case Google syndication aren't going to pay up much.

If they don't pay much hopefully they'll disappear!!!!

Ooooooo I am so sorry MIke ...... please accept my many humble apologies.....

Didn't wish to offend!

I shall go off forthwith and give myself a good slapped wrist for being so 'fat-ist'

end of the day Chris has to pay for this site ,that so many use for free,he also has to live somewhere and eat.
i and i suspect many more out there have gained a great deal from this site,to keep it subscription free we have to "put up" with these little things from time to time

TimC - 14/7/07 at 04:00 PM

Doesn't bother me - as long as the contributor screen doesn't appear I'm a happy chicken.

Well said John!
I think there is far more information on this site, and, lets face it, more often than not, instant advice, than can be gleaned from many a 'car based, monthly mag'...which costs ....How much? per month.....

Must admit that these new ads are a VERY minor annoyance... I find it easy to overlook them, and they don't interfere to any extent.

mistergrumpy - 14/7/07 at 08:18 PM

Come on Fozzie, lets not knock a 1/2", its very important to some of us

Same here. I was wondering why an empty box had appeared below the first post, now I know
