Just used the paypal donate button at bpttom right of screen , got an email back saying address no longer in use due to spaming.
i then have looked at the top of page donate link and it is a different email address for Chris.
Will my donation work or do i need to use the link on top of the page?

Did you get a receipt email from Paypal using the first method?

If so, copy and paste and send in a u2u to me...and don't use the 'top button'.

I will get on to Chris to update the 'side donate' button......

I used the button at the top and I've got the same message as Paul did and a normal payment receipt from paypal

Yes .... both different addresses for Chris, and neither of them the current one...... so he will need to update them...

But as far as the site and your monies paid, PayPal verified, so all is ok....

All i got was an email saying the email accountwas unused , not sure if the paypal payment went through first time but worked straight away the second.

It would seem then, as though no monies left you the first time..... as it would have worked in the same way (quickly) as your second try.....

If you didn't get a transaction number with your first attempt, I would say that it 'failed' ....
