Con man on the forum!!!
dubstar_04 - 13/5/08 at 08:15 PM

I was sent a u2u message last week offering me an item I had posted about in the wanted section of the forum.

I paid the person via paypal and they said they would post it the following day.

on friday i told them that it had not arrived and they said they would post it saturday.

The item still has not arrived and the member will not reply to my u2u messages.

What should I do?

Name them. If it's a genuine issue then they'll be on and explain.

Are they a noob or an established builder? You could name and shame, but just think they may have a very good reason for not answering.... I would send 'em one more message, giving a deadline before you name and shame.

^^^^ perfectly reasonable thing to do, if its a genuine mistake or set of circumstances we would all understand.

If the person is on they should contact you straight away to sort this out. That said if they are not replying to u2u and you have no other way of contacting them, name them. How did you pay? If you paid paypal you could open a dispute, if cheque you could cancell it but that will cost you.

Check to see when he was last active on the forum first.

Bit harsh to jump to a conclusion that he's ignored U2U's if he'd not actually been online to read them!

If he's been online and read the U2U's, it's a different matter!

(Edit to add - Click on Profile of member and you'll see when they were last active)

Can't you check you outbox or sentbox to see if the message has been read?

r1_pete - 13/5/08 at 08:32 PM

Just a thought if you look in your u2u outbox it tells you whether or not the message is read...

if its an established member, it will be genuine. A con man wouldnt bother building up a post count. If its a newby, then it probably is a scam.

Are we talking about Friday 9th May and Saturday 10th? If so, he/she hasn't really had much time to get the item posted. Personally, I'd give it a few more days before claiming there's a con-man on the forum.

I think a simple statement of fact would suffice IE

who the deal was with
when the offer was made
when the paypal payment was made
if any discussion re delivery times was had
when U2Us were sent asking for information re delivery
when the person was last active on the forum

I think that would be enough information for most people to make their own minds up.

I think the only answer is a kung foo cat fight

dubstar_04 - 14/5/08 at 06:13 AM

I will send them another u2u and then Wait until friday...

... Then its kung foo cat fight to the death...

Just remember people don't spend there life on here (honest!)... Like said check to see when they were last on-line/have read U2U, Personally up to a week would not be unreasonable if people are busy with other stuff.. It's even possible that the person might be on holiday!

Sounds good

dubstar_04 - 14/5/08 at 10:52 AM

The culprit has been reading the u2u messages i have sent, thats why i'm so concerned!!!

The items may well turn up soon and all this will of been for nothing, thats why I don't want to mention any names.

Thanks,

Dan

Please deal with issues such as this with the person in question, not in the public forum. If you are unable to come up with a resolution, send me a u2u in private and I will investigate.
