What kind of camera do you want?
Compact? All in one? Digital SLR?
Fuji offer good all round cameras

AAA's or AA's? You can't realistically use Alkaline batteries in digital cameras, you need decent NiMh batteries.

There is a lot of choice at your budget, but we need to know what kind of camera you want. If you are happy with a compact then you'd be hard pressed to find much better than the Panasonic Lumix TZ7 which is just about within budget PANASONIC LUMIX DMC-ZS3 / TZ7 DIGITAL CAMERA BLACK on eBay (end time 24-Dec-10 21:26:40 GMT). The TZ8 model is newer and can be had for around the same price but isn't quite as good (lower resolution and smaller screen, slower minimum shutter speed) though still a very good compact camera.

Canon G7, G9, G11 etc. Amazing cameras. Look for a 2nd hand one at that price...

I have the TZ7 and it is really good, as an all round camera it is just what you need, I have SLR's but now I have the TZ7 it goes with me every time, it fits in your pocket and has a very good zoom and other good settings.

Cheers

Weve been buying the Olympus uTough cameras, as they can take some abuse, and can be used under water.

I'll second that.
For value for money, i don't think you can beat Fuji.
Chuffed to death with the one I got last Christmas.

Edited to say; I got a Fuji after watching a comparison trial on The Gadget Show between, Sony Nikon and Fuji. Fuji won hands down and was the cheapest camera.

we now have 3 fuji cameras in the house, and been exceptionally pleased with them. We had some "clever" stuff in the past but we never used the features and really use it for snaps, so be realistic about what you want the camera for
In fact one reason we got the fuji initially is that the lens doesn't "pop" out, really neat system and at the time very quick start up (handy to think about that, nothing worse than having to wait but I think cameras have got better)
Best thing is they are a good price, about £80 (think it is the z70 thesedays, or they do a waterproof one for a little over £100)

Check you have the correct type of battery selected in the camera's menu.
Also why not use Sanyo Eneloop rechargable batteries.
