Dartford Crossing

Subject: Dartford Crossing

I doubt if this will do any good but let's try to influence those bird brains that occupy the House of Commons.

As you all know the Government pledge was that once the Tunnel / Bridge is paid for it will be FREE. As London / Home Counties based business and commuters we have no other option than to use the Dartford Crossing.

It is not like the M6 toll which is a short cut option or the Humber or Severn Bridges the M25 is a major commuter route!!!

The government have promised to debate the removal of the Toll which is going up to £2.50 in 2012!!
Please go to this link and sign up it takes 2 minutes and then pass it on to 10 of your friends.

Let the government know that motorists are not going to continue to be the sacred cow that provides an endless revenue stream for the Chancellor of the Exchequer!

Will you also sign the petition to save the jobs of all the workers who currently collect the tolls on the Dartford crossing? There are always two sides to a story.

Unfortunately, this falls into the "overpromising, and underdelivering" that governments are famous for. When you have a group of people, politicians, who are fundamental liars, that is what we get in the Western world.

But if i was not to vote, would it keep the likes of "Towie" dick heads out of the true south ?

If so, make the toll £20 per bicycle, and £100 for a car! to go south

hahhaha

An English Government also promised us that Income Tax was and would be a TEMPORARY measure (at the time) to pay for the Napoleonic War.

And we are STILL paying for it.

The financial year ending march 2005 the dartford toll total fees received was just over £68,000,000. the fee and traffic flow has gone up since then. The bridge cost £185,000,000 in 1991 so it has been well paid off. Figers from an official document, not wiki-guess.

The workers dont need a petition to save their jobs, they need a paycut to prevent such hostility towards the toll costs.

There are always two sides to a story but some sides have a stronger arguments then the other.

Take two mins out gents and get your name down, even if just to allow free flowing traffic between J31-J2.

Don't worry, we get through Towieland as quick as poss. That's the real reason for the M25. In fact, they should remove the tolls, just so we can escape Essex even quicker

Er, rfl, same as what's supposed to pay for the roads anyway!

Cost to business with all the waiting is massive; and if you're into green issues the fact that all that stop/start traffic dumping all the pollution over Dartford.

To be fair you can go around, it's alot longer of course but I've seen my dad go the long way round on many an occassion (To Clarrify, that through London, not the whole way around the M25).

bj928 - 21/2/12 at 05:15 AM

i go blackwell tunnel as much as i can, if u time it right it don't take much longer then come up M11 to the M25 or straight through the middle if its outside of C charge times, and exit london on A41 straight onto M1, or i time things to use the tunnel/bridge between 10pm and 6am when its free, living and working in america now i don't use it much, only odd times when i visit UK and want to go kent to midlands to see family, so as said i can time things in my favour, sod using it daytimes if i'm paying.

Let's keep a toll lane [just one mind] for all the foreign registered lorries. That should keep some of the toll boys in jobs and even up the playing field for our haulage firms.

I'm not entirely sure why the Dartford Tunnel should be any different to any 'government owned' toll road. Sure, if you're using it a lot, or your business is effected by it, then you will want it to be free but the same applies to most toll roads. I can use the Humber Bridge as a good example because I know of businesses that have relocated to get away from it! If the Dartford toll is such an issue, then move away!
I accept that the govt made promises it hasn't kept, but that's what they do. Deal with it.

samjc - 21/2/12 at 11:46 AM

Dont the americans have registerd passes they pay annualy like we do road tax thats issued to vehicles via an application allowing them to use an unmaned lane of the toll to prevent stops. as seen something like it when i go over odd times.

Want to think yourself lucky you've got a nice big motorway to get around on!
