Help!!!
RJK350 - 17/3/13 at 09:46 PM

Our local council has carried out a cheap road surface. Covered the road in tar and put chippings down.
Apart from the stone chips, what's the best thing to get tar off the body work?

It's good to know your taxes are being put to good use

acetone works very nicely.

Basically, any solvent. Personally, White spirit and a roll of cleaning rag, dip the rag and rub it in little circles.

White spirit or WD40

Autoglym intensive tar remover. Spray on wash off.

X2 works very well indeed.

Once it's off, a really good coat of wax helps stop fresh tar sticking quite so much too.

Our road was done this time 2-3 years ago, same thing, spray poo loads of tar everywhere, dump a load of chippings and bugger off. I complained enough times to the council they came round and swept the road twice then dusted it to try and deal with the excess tar. The road is still a bloody mess every summer when it bubbles and peels. There was nothing wrong with it before

Don't use acetone it is deadly to a lot of paint finishes.

A kitchen wipe dipped White spirit, kerosene, derv, Swarfega or even butter, works well followed by wax polish. Mr Sheen or similar would also work.
If I suggested petrol somebody would point out it contains Benzine which is a nasty.
