Leeds to London - A1 or M1??
eznfrank - 2/7/09 at 09:06 AM

I've been doing the Leeds to SE London journey fairly regular over the last few years and on the odd occasion I try the M1 and find it just takes an age due to road works, average speed cameras etc. The A1 always seems much quicker.

I'm off to Goodwood this aft, which I know isn't exactly the same area but only looks around 30 mins longer on A1 according to multimap than going on M1, which i think will be taken up by the M1 being a bit....well, sh1t anyway?

What's the M1 like nowadays? Still a bunch of crap, not been on it for 9 months or so.

Been doing leeds to london regularly for the last 12 years. I have only ever used the A1 twice.
Just plan your journey at the right time and it's three hours door to door on the M1.

A1 is much better now they have got rid of load of roundabouts

I use the A1, M11, M25, A2/M2, all the time when I return to Leeds via Dover.

It all depends whereabouts in London you want to be.

If you go to SE London, the only option is the A1, M11, M225 route.

+1 it is sooo much better without the roundabouts, especially the one where you cut right across round to the left on the southbound lane, missing out the roundabout that sits in the trees, can't remember the name or exact location of the junction!!

A1. bored with M1

much more interesting on A1, feels like
you are passing places rather than just
on a slab of tarmac.

I'd use the A1, M1 roadworks from just after J28 down to 25, about 16 miles at 50mph, last time I was that far down there were more works at Luton, add in the odd accident.

Have to agree you do see things on the A1, just watch out for the cameras around the Peterborough area.

A1. There's still a few roundabouts NOT to slow down for!

iscmett. think it's five lane ends at Worksop you're thinking of.

That kind of language shouldn't be tolerated on a forum such as this!

came down from scotland last night, avoided the m1 as it was al over the traffic news junction 26 and 25 were like a car park. the a1 was perfect no hastle so i d use that one! you ll have more problems closer to goodwood!

on the back of 50k miles a year A1 every time, depending on where in London A14 M11 is good to break the monotony of the A1
