cant answer your question but feel lucky you have white lines, most in the midlands have gone along time ago.

Interesting.
I'd go with
"Please correct me if I'm wrong... my understanding is that H bars are advisory only, and that they're a good deterrent but not actually enforceable. The point of them is that they illustrate a possible obstruction, and BiB can act on that. That's what Reading council told me anyway"
Nothing in Highway code either?

loggyboy - 25/7/12 at 08:29 PM

IIRC It is illegal to obstruct someones right of access.

vanepico - 25/7/12 at 10:02 PM

Yeah if it's a driveway you can't park infront of it, unless you have permission of the person's house it is, cause who else is gonna complain?

Which incidently is why I want a set of these when I have a drive!:

so if someone does park there, slide them under the handbraked wheels and wheel it out the way

I think this is where it gets complicated.
The deeds to my house say I have a legal right of access to my property and since the driveway is the only point of access then it cannot be obstructed, but its not a traffic offence to stop outside my driveway. If I call the police they can move the obstruction on but cannot 'issue a ticket' as no traffic offence has occurred. I could take legal action for preventing right of access but thats something different again.
Our local firestation has yellow no obstructon hatched boxes outside the doors, it is an offence to stop here as you cannot stop in a yellow hatched box.

I was told by the plod that you can park across a driveway when there is no car in the drive but if there is a car in the drive you cannot park as you would be preventing the owner the use of their car. I didn't believe him then and I still don't believe him now.

What if that same drive had a large gate halfway down it, obstructing from view the car parked behind it?, The car is still parked on the drive...... So I think that copper needs to do some homework in future before offering such information .

Or, the car is in the garage??

Krismc - 30/7/12 at 08:05 PM

A normal person wouldnt block someones drive or garage. A idiot or inconsiderate person would. Simple

...Park in front of mine and id jack it up and move it.

And preferably left at an angle where it can't be driven out!
