IMMOBILISER

My neighbour has been given a K reg 1800 16v Escort. The only problem is that the keys are missing, and as the car is fitted with an immobiliser. It's going to cost £ 150.00 to get a new set of keys from Ford. He has a key that works all locks and the ignition. It powers the car up, but won't start it. I presume it's possible to bypass the immobiliser and save £ 150.00? Anybody able to give me some advice on this?

Hi

If your neighbour has not got the Red Key you can not program new keys inwith out it. You will have to get a new set of keys cut to the that fifs the car one black and one rad key go to ford and get then programed in.

you cannot bypass the immobiliser itis bilt into the ecu of the car

I heard a rumour that all the imobiliser did on the early mondeos (93-96) was cut power to the starter. So if you have a key and want to move it then bump start it!

If the escort will bump start then all you'd need to do is wire in a feed to the starter from the column.

what does the key he has look like?

It may be correct but the black box may not be picking up the signal as they have an internal aerial which may be faulty. Might want to try putting the key right near the box and seeing what the light does.

on the early ones there is a collar round the steering lock,there are 2 wires on it,just snip n join

Does anyone know if there is a similar trick for the old Audi A6 (the one that looked was the same as a late model Audi 100.
I have only one propper key for my Audi and would like a working spare - the one cut by the key shop does not is blocked by the imobiliser.

Hmmmm, great way to advertise to a would-be thief how to nick a mondeo, Mind you they probably already have a key for the car ready and waiting.

did the car start by joining the two wires???? i was led to beklieve that the transponder sent a signal to the ecu? rather than make a circuit, martin.

Well................... it turns out the car wasn't fitted with an immmobiliser, it had a frozen starter motor. Once the car had been bump started, problem solved!
