Warning - WIN98/98SE
Dick Axtell - 10/6/03 at 05:30 PM

Attention all WIN98/98SE users :-
Have just received a message from my bank, saying that we should download Internet Explorer 6 (SP1) before 30 June. Apparently, MSoft won't continue to provide tech support for old IE versions, where it's used in conjunction with other, "private" (e.g. the banks) web browsers.

Thanks Dick,

I think this is why I haven't been able to access my overdraft for the last few days.

Are you with Nat West?

Cheers

Chris

Dick,

I've read this recently too. It is also worth knowing that banking on the internet seems to have taken an upward step in encryption lately. Most banks I know of want you to upgrade IE to get 128bit encryption (check under help -> about IE).
I know you can upgrade current version eg 5, 5.5 to higher level of encyrption, but if you're gonna do it, you might as wel do it properly as they say!!

enjoy.....

Ned.

If your going to upgrade go to IE6 and then download all the latest patches from microsoft.

The security issues with 5 and 5.5 make them a non starter

From what I have heard Microsoft are going to stop supporting 98/98SE before the year is out and ME soon after.Get the feeling they want everyone to have XP?
