Hi all,
I have an unbaffled fuel tank with a breather pipe. How do I stop fuel spilling out under hard corning. I need like a float valve. I have seen non return valves but with spring. Would this be able to allow vacuum break.

Any advice you have is appreciated.

One way valve in the vent tube, air in no fluid out.

cheap as chips on ebay and the one I bought worked fine

Bought a bike one for mine for around a fiver off the bay of e

do they not need to vent air in and out? and only block fuel from one direction?

I think they only need to let air in, as the pump will suck the tank in, so needs replacing with air.

When you fill it up, air escapes through the filler.

The only think is expansion due to heat, but as long as it's not filled to the filler cap it shouldn't matter ??

Hi All,

I have an electric fuel pump mounted on the bulkhead feeding twin Del 45's.


It was one hot summers day and both garage doors were open.
By 4 o'clock it was 85f in the shade and with every slight gust of wind I could smell petrol.
Took the bonnet off to find the carbs dripping. There was a slight moment of panic, and without
thinking I took the fuel filler cap off to look inside. I don't know why, as you can't see anything.
It's just one of those stupid things you do at moments like this.

There was a loud hisssss when the cap was removed as vapour escaped, and the dripping stopped.
I'd always assumed that filler caps vented through the key hole. Apparently not.

I've done so many rants about this!
You need a two way breather with roll over valve.
one way valves, especially fuel injection return tanks, will not allow the air to escape and your tank will pop!
Do a search

I cut the breather from my Sierra donor's filler tube... works fine

You need one of these. They let air in and out, but don't let fuel out (little float thing), they are designed for the purpose.



There may be other solutions but I didn't want to risk it.

I've had mine fitted for 3 years now with no problems - now you chaps have got me worried! It was a cheapo out of ebay so I presume it does not have any fancy stuff in it.
