I currently have a standard type 9 gearbox married to my 4age, and with the quest for abit more power over stock, I'm kind of wondering do I
stick with the Type 9?
I believe I'm going to need a rebuild shortly as she's beginning to leak oil from all places. So do I come away and try something
different?
I have been looking at J160 and W58 gearboxs which are spoken about very highly.
Does anyone running one of these? or if you have a 4age....What do you have bolted to it?

Have a look at BGH Geartech
Another vote for BGH
Probably the best mod I ever did to my Westy
John Hughes sells an adapter to mate the 4AG with and RX8 box:

The RX8 box is bulkier but will definitely handle the power of a well tuned 4AG
Just to aid your decision making, here is the RX8 box alongside a Type 9.
I have the IS200 version of the AZ6 box in my 3SGE engined car.
Run many version in a type 9 inc tranx and quaife, by far the best i ever had was the SPC (Tracsport) semi helical gear set which was absolutely
superb. Smooth, quiet and never broke it.

Hi
Running a tuned 4AGE (circa 180bhp) in a Striker for track work, use a BGH (the 2.8 long first heavy duty) and it's been an excellent box, been
abused properly for several years..
About the only thing that's an essential 'extra' is a decent gear lever (Quaife or similar) and heavy duty saddle (brass one from
Burton's or similar)
You then get a proper 'bolt action' change too.
