if you where going to build a monster engine over a couple of years. a complete
rebuild but it must be turbo.you could use a n/a engine because the rods and pistons will be upgraded. the target 500+bhp. what engine would you pick
and why.
adam
Chevy small block V8 and don't bother with the turbo. Slap on a supercharger.
SR20DET from a nissan 200sx
I'm with Dusty V8 all day long.
Audi V8 Twin Turbo and a mild remap should give you 500bhp quite easily
Volvo T5 - should be easy to achieve 500 hp with relatively minor mods.
Jag V12 with a few mods can reach 6-700+ hp checkout linky
Just remembered, im sure i read somewhere that the old daimler v8 from the mk2 will tune to the 1000hp mark
Nissan Skyliner r34
Audi RS6, just turn the wick up a little. Job done.
They sound fantastic under all conditions.
Chevy LS7. 505bhp out of the crate, but a fairly hefty price tag.
Chevy LS1 is a lot cheaper, can be tuned to 500bhp NA but turbo would be cheaper.
Simple engine. VAG 1.8T
here it comes!!!!

volvo redbock or whiteblock will meet that criteria , cheaper than most .
Cobra Ford DOHC V8.... ofcourse
No subsitute for cubic inches.. and valves!
Cosworth V6 twin T35 turbo - 600bhp+
You wouldn't expect me to say anything else would you....

Honda for me, if you look at some of the specs for the v6's they rev to 9000 rpm etc and have all the goodies, titamium rods, billet crank etc as
standard.
or toyota 3gse from a MR2 turbo, standard is 270'ish easy to push up with a big blower as the internals are highly specified.

LS1 is the way to go. Totally stock they are 400bhp+, are readily available (here anyhow), very strong, and with modifications can make stupid
amounts of power. 500bhp is easy with an LS1.

Cheers.
Has this engine got to go in a se7en? If so there would be some interesting installation challenges with some of the above! - some good answers
though. Me, probably the Chevy LS1.
SpeedyXJS - are you refering to the old Daimler 2.5 litre V8 from the sixties? Are you having a laugh? My pal has just run one of those up on his
rollers and albeit in std nick but fitted with a small 4 barrel he took it to about 60 at the wheels, thought it may make 80 but didn't want to
chance it.
Chevy 350
Of all the engines mentioned (bar the LS1), it is the only engine I would trust to reliably handle 500+ hp.. The LS1 is great, but silly
expensive..
For me its was the 2JZ-GTE 3.0L straight six Toyota engine but now I favour the 1UZ-FE 4.0L V8 from Toyota/Lexus.
I'm already pushing 300BHP from my 1.6L 4AGE using a Rotrex supercharger. So so it would make sense to use two of those on the 1UZ-FE to make an
easy 500BHP!
Indeed Blimble',
Justin's (lextreme) 1uzfe with single turbo does 612RWhp on a 2nd hand factory stock engine. for 1000s of miles now.
only parts non factory
Headers, turbo, ECU, intercooler, injectors, and sparkplugs.
plenty more when going twin turbo BTW.
I'm building a twin supercharged version at the mo.
