Anonymous Posting and Lost/Invalid Login Cookies Aaaaarrrrrgggghhhhhh

Just spent ages typing a response to click post and get the dreaded "anonymous posting not allowed" message.

WHY oh WHY can it not store the message you've just spent ages typing and just prompt you for your username/password????

Or not show the post/reply buttons if you are not logged in.

You may have got your writing back if you pressed 'Back' in your browser

Yeah, I wrote a lengthy reply to something yesterday only to get the Register/Login screen. 'Back' took me to an empty box so I gave up.

Ooooo not personally come across that problem before!

I know that when the site has a lot of traffic it can time out when you are trying to reply to a post......so I find it good practise to highlight and copy the text before hitting the 'post' button. That way, if it does time out, you can copy it into notepad/wordpad, and try again later.....or just copy the text into a new reply.

BT's suggestion is good if you are running FireFox ..... but at the risk of sounding very obvious and provoking a few groans, you did make sure that you were actually logged into the site before trying to post?

I have cookies disabled in Firefox at home - same thing gets me all the time.

Enable cookies (Tools, Options, Privacy, Accept Cookies from Sites) and you're back again. But I share your pain!

Fozzie - no, I didn't. Because I didn't log out and it normally remembers me ...

For example, I didn't log in to post this one....

It's all very well to say "Check if you are logged in first" but who remembers that - I tend to try to highlight and copy before posting but often get that sinking feeling just as I hit the "post reply" button when I realise I have neither copied or checked log on status - normally happens after brandy and cokes taken on board or extra long replies

Have now installed Lazarus so thanks for that.

Can now post regardless of mental acuity.

I think the "not logged in " handling is probably the only real issue I have with the forum. All the other forums I use won't let you get as far as replying to a post or starting a new thread if you are not logged in and this seems like the most sensible and obvious behaviour by far.
