Spam sent to lcb email account

After the thread a while ago about possible spam being sent to LCBers's email accounts, I changed the email address in my profile. Since I have my own domain name I chose something specific to this forum, and I only use it to receive emails, not to send them.

so... this morning I got an email starting "Hello friend, Good day. We haven't contacted each other for a long time since your last order from me. So how are you and your business. Last time you bought some products from my company, do they still work well?" with prices in USD and a phone number with a Chinese dialling code.

Anyone else been hacked from here?

I'm going to change my email address again...

Simon

Just disable the email button you still have enabled. Spambots can easily havest your address from pages that you've posted on. Hover about your email button - it won't take a spambot a millisecond to process that address as it's not encrypted or scrambled using javascript.

You've not been hacked. You've been naive enough to believe the advice so called professionals about disguising your email address. Parsing information is the easiest thing in the world to do. The most basic crawler can adjust the search patterns to remove the useful information from "myname at mymailaddress dot whatever" I've shown on here before that its so easy, you can do it in Google by searching for addresses with an AT or a DOT in them.

EDIT:
Or another example of parsing this whole site for "hidden email adressess"

I just keep my e-mail address hidden - if folk need to contact me they can send me a u2u
and now that chris has updated the e-mail notifications I get an e-mail telling me I've got a u2u - sorted

I've had the same hotmail address for 11 years and I use it on loads of different forums - I still only get a couple of junk mails a day, even then they go strait to the junk folder

I still occasionally get spam to the (unique) locostbuilders email address I used but initially didn't hide 6 years ago.
Once on the spammers list it's unusable for everyday email

Fair enough. I've disabled my email from being visible and changed it (again). Hopefully that will do the trick.
