Why not post code and house name/number?.

Well my screen name comes from a gaming alias i gained at a lan party on day in an Unreal Tournament frenzy... and i use it on virtually every site i
am a member on. Anyway my 'essential' details are in my profile.
Anyway, the details thing is good as long as there is a proper data protection thingy as well. Which may be difficult to set up? I dont know. I do
agree that there should be more details required for the site, or at least a valid email adress. Maybe sending a link to a secure access page to the
submitted email adress or something? (some sites do this) I dont know how that works though.
Cheers,
David

Yes but if its only needed for initial registration then it would need not show on profile and could be kept seperately for admin purposes only.
Actually your probably right chrisw probably is one of the biggest wierdo's; after all he is hosting/running this site.

Sorry to bring this one up again, but is it possible to hide user's e-mail addresses from public view on the site like they do on most other
forums?
I too have had considerable amount of spam through my email address being on this site, I know because I own the domain I use for e-mail, so always
register for websites with individual names, eg locostbuilders at locostfireblade co uk etc, and most of the spam has come from that address. The
problem as I see it is that all our e-mail addresses are plain to see to any web crawler - if you look at anyone's profile the e-mail address is
there in regular HTML so can be poached by spam crawlers.
On other sites you have to click something to e-mail somebody which I believe can be made "invisible" to these crawlers, or the initial
contact is made via a webmail interface as Blatchat etc do.

I just noticed that on the "edit profile" page there is a checkbox for "make your email address viewable by others" (which I
just unchecked after reading this thread.)
