cosworth vs veyron
i was watching a ford focus with a 800bhp cosworth engine in it racing at the weekend. on friday i was watching the 1000bhp veyron on top gear. it got
me thinking...
the veyron, huge W12 engine, 10 radiators, 4(?) turbos, £5 million to build.
focus cosworth, 2 litre 4 cylinder engine not sure how old these are any more, 20+ years?, huge turbo, 1 radiator and 1 intercooler (i assume), 4wd,
don't know what it cost to build.
for a difference of 'only' 200bhp, which, ok, its quite a bit, what makes the bugatti that mental?
i'm really not wording what i mean very well, but hopefully you see what i'm getting at. maybe? lol

I can explain, its simple.
one costs 1,000,000, one doesn't.
one is made by bugatti, one is made by ford.
take it down a level, which is nicer, a smart roadster or a rover citycar?

The difference is some rich bar steward with money to burn doesn't want to drive a fast ford sierra.
Edit: missed the bit about it being a focus.

given a choice between those two.. i'll take herpes thanks lol
looking up some info the ford cosworth is nearly 25 years old now.
bugatti made this car as a sort of technical exercise to prove they could. but when you see a ford focus tuned giving that much power from a 2 litre
engine, you sort of wonder if it was worth it. they could have got a lot more power surely? or does all the fancy stuff they've thrown at it
mean its more reliable than that cosworth, will the bugatti go a lot further between engine rebuilds, will that cosworth only last a few races before
being rebuilt etc

I would imagine that an 800bhp 2 litre turbo is a little hormonal to say the least! If it decides to have a tantrum and let go it would be a case of
taking it home in a hoover bag.
The Veyron should be slightly less stressed but does that make it worth the price? Probably!

Which one could you get into in the paddock at Knockhill after the race and drive to the South of France in though ?
I'm as big a fan as anyone of the underdog, but it's horse for courses is it not ?
There's also the aspect of the veyron being 1000bhp and refined as well, which I imagine Andrew Gallagher's Focus possibly isn't...

Don't forget the running costs of the Bug.
£5.5k per tyre for the fronts and £6.5k each for the rear tyres!
The tyres when brand new recieved with the car have 7mm tread depth and the replacments are only 5mm! So they are "part worn"!!!
50k euro for a 1 year extension in warrantee.
I'd take the scort Cossie anytime. At least I'd be able to use it.

yeah it was all well and good til the fuel line wore through took 3 bags of cement to clear that lot up off the pit lane.
i'd love to see that focus in a race against the veyron though, just to see how they go. even taddei's fiesta was pretty awesome

Obviously nothing too special about 800bhp anyway... You can even get it from a ROVER!

The Veyron could be thrashed all day long, not overheat, not get stressed and do the same every day for 100000-200000 miles.
The 800bhp Focus will blow up shortly...
Edit to add: I would be extremely skeptical that the 2l Cosworth is really producing 800bhp.

which one would you rather collect Kristan Scott-Thomas from her house and take her to a film premier in Monte Carlo in. I know which i would have,
i'd then be able to afford to have the focus as a track day car

Actually, I wouldnt have either...I would have a sevenesque sports car....oh hang on, got one of those
Now all I need it to make it into an R500 beater, then its gonna be quicker than a veyron round a track anyway....top gear's proved that point
already.
