ALD services......just me again?

Who are they and why can't we comment on what they claim to be performance head work?

Edited as I've realised they're in the Traders Offers bit and no-one can comment in there..
I wouldn't comment on their performance headwork as I'm sure others can see the pictures?!

I had some flow questions to ask!
Photos cause me some concern, some are done at home, some in a studio with professional lighting and some look omputer generated, not a consistent approach, if you had money for a professional job why do some at home?
Haven't tried yet but may see if I can extract the metadata from the image, that would tell me who's photos they are and where they came from.

I usually judge a business by the workshop and the tools.
Apart from lightening flywheel all the tools that are required for that work are dremmal/ die grinder polisher.

I just think you are all a bunch of sceptics. To me the guy/outfit is trying to up their work has had a go at web pages, seems to have done a lot of the old fashioned stuff by hand and not on a machine by CNC.
To me growing from a small workshop.

Most of what I see in his pictures , or the reasoning is in the Graham bell book I have or certainly the concept of it.

I wish them good luck for having a go and trying to make it.

Adrian

Why do I have to make the tools to finish the job? More time then money.

this whole country was built in a shed i fail to see a problem

I would have expected a better attitude from a bunch of guys doing the same thing, no idea on how good this guys work is as i have no personal experience, but everyone deserves at the very least a chance.

Just people who have nothing better to do than slag people off. SAD isn't it.

I get the impression that some are questioning examples of the fella's work... but no-one has actually said what the problem is!? Any of the early commentators care to expand (only fair IMHO if you're publicly casting aspersions on someones livelihood!).

I certainly don't wish to slag off anyone trying to run a business, but £300 is very cheap for a well ported 16v head. I have to wonder if the heads have ever seen a flowbench.

My interpretation of their web site contact details is the land line is for normal daytime use and the mobile number is for after 6.

There does seem to be a lot of negative attitudes on here now days, I would say if anyone interested and wants to find out more details about head flow etc why not just phone them and ask rather than applying negativity!

With locost builders from every part of the country there must be someone know location and professional set up or not, as for pictures of the zetec head if that's what you get for £300 that seems a good price having tried to do my own,

I spoke to this guy the other day - you phone up, he calls you back in the evening. I get the impression that he's a busy bloke.

Also, it doesn't take much googling to see that he has a massive presence on at least two other car forums and that he regularly does multibuy offers. I guess his overheads are lower as he is a smaller business.

Flowbenched or not, I suspect he has ported many heads over the years and that's good enough for me.

Either way, I'm in on the multibuy, the engine is out this weekend I hope. Fingers crossed two other people are in on it too.

Hi to all

A.L.D is a very small company that was set up by me and a friend years ago, This is not a full time job for me hence why i ask for people to call after 6pm if they want to have a word but if they are happy to email then i will always get back to you. I do work from home in a little workshop and i do lots of work in a friends CNC machine shop. Working with metal, welding, cutting, grinding ect your workshop does get dirty so it does show up in photos.

Some of the photos you have seen were done by pros as the parts were used in Redline, Fast ford and Performance Ford mags
I have done work for Rob at Redline ( RS2000 ), Danny's ( Mk1 Fiesta ) and Dan ( S2 Escort Turbo ) of Performance Ford. You will see there progress in the back of the mag also no computer generated photo's. Just some photo's done with different camera's and what people have sent me.

As for head work i don't have a flowbench thats my own but i can borrow one when i do need one, A flowbench is never used on all heads i do as once you find out want needs to be done you keep the measurements and use them on the next head you work on. If every head specialist flow tested every head he did then they would never get any work done as the time taken to set up a flowbench for a head can take a long time.

As for the comment on the lambo heads you need to read it as i have yet to do them. The owner was in talks about it and i was saying to him why bother? that was a few years ago and he still hasn't had them done but yes i have made a few small simple things for his car, nothing big but he has now become a good friend that work near by.

Yes i can do head work for as little as £300, Not all zetec head look like the one in the pictures as that one is a higher spec one with lots more work to stop carbon build up etc, very little gains from the combustion chamber been polished.

As for the site yes its not the best and still needs a lot of work but its just finding time to do it

I have done lots of work for people on the XRtwo.com mainly cylinder head work and all have been happy with the work thats been done and the dyno results they got

Fair play to you fella, good to see someone offering a good service at a reasonable price
I was a bit sceptical at first when I saw the level of polishing put into some of the work and thought this might be done to 'blind' the average punter. But then I noticed it was mainly done on the exhaust side, presumably to lessen the carbon build up? Looks like good work to me and I'd be surprised if it doesn't produce very decent results. Do you have any back to back examples of power runs where just head work was done? It might help to persuade any doubters
I did a pair of V6 Camry heads last year before putting the engine in my MR2. I know how time consuming it can be to try and finish heads to a decent level, so hats off to you.

Also, well done for putting a post up on a thread where you're being slagged off without getting into a slagging match and keeping it clean.

I've nothing to comment on whether your work is good or bad, or whether you're prices are good or bad as I've not looked and won't due to not needing any work done myself. Just thought I'd say fair play to you...

I assume that since you are advertising in the Traders Offers Section that you have joined as a Trader and paid the small fees to advertise on this site?

If I might just add to this.

The guys behind DJ Racecars started out doing at between full time day jobs.

It doesn't mean you shouldn't be taken seriously.
Many people work this way.

Here's DJ's latest output, just an as example.
Not bad for part timers.

Another well done to ALD from me.

As someone who is also starting a small business I know it's not easy to do everything as well as the established names immediately.

What ALD has done is to reply and reply well to those who had chosen to knock him.

And he's got lots of positive press as a result.

Well done fella.

Mike
