anyone any idea what size cable i should get for the battery connections on a BEC

think its 6mm.

yes, i've used them a few times.

there smallest size is 7.5mm OD so i think i will just go for that. its 16mm2 and rated to 110amps

The important thing is the length of the wire. 12 Volt DC suffers from voltage drop on thinner cables over longer distances.
So the 16mm square is a good choice for a short run, if the run is longer go thicker.

My cvh is on 16mm^2. Although the round trip lenght is all of about 1m.

cable length will be less than 1m so looks like the 16mm2 will do
