Good day at the Dyno, 600 bhp per ton

Good day at the dyno today, at last the engine can breath and i'm making power to 7500 rpm. The stock turbo i was using was way too restrictive.

She made 380 at the fly and 340 ftlbs (310 bhp atw's), so pretty much as i predicted, Still have an issue with boost dropping off, it peaked at 12 psi but soon dropped off to 9 psi after 5k rpm. although it's a nice safe boost level. We have put it down to the intercooler being restrictive so a less restrictive one will see the boost stay flat and not drop off which also means torque and BHP will also not drop off as quick. The I/C i'm using was only a cheap ebay one so a better quality one is called for. I'm not really looking for more power as the car is manic as it is, luckily the boost is adjustable in the car, but i would like things to work as they should. With a flat boost curve the power would easily be at 330 atw's

My wife is going to scan the graphs in at work tomorrow so i will post them up.

thanks, its not a very good picture and doesnt look like that anymore as there is a lot of heatshield everywhere.

Here is a better picture but still without the heatshield

A picture of the bare block on end after i rebuilt it. Not much to it

I do love those wankel engines, so small and compact.
Just need to be rebuilt every 40,000 miles

Well done mate thats pretty impressive.

Do you get much lag with the T04E? I was thinking of keeping the standard turbo when I rebuild my 13b, but I think you've just changed my mind.

What you have done is simply amazing... but why put all this power into something so light? At best it's going to be dangerous at worst it could be lethal...

but at least you'll have fun...

Those pictures look familiar, is that the mighty Max, at Geffs?

I have a sneaking suspicion we have met, many many years ago. (I had a FD about 8 years ago).

Cheers

Nice car (always like the stylus) and very nice engine indeed.

I've driven an RX8 a fair bit (non turbo obviously) and absolutely love the power delivery from the rotary engine. Not a tidal wave, but so smooth and almost endless revs too

1. yes, that is maxy baby at reworx, he does all my mapping, it s the one thing i want to learn to do myself.

2. Got any pics of your FD, i normally recognise the cars not the faces

3. I cant really open it up on the road, especially as i have my normal road tyres on it at the moment, one of my toyo 888's bit the dust.

4. Why so much power?, its probably the lowest power i could get with that set up. Its also the cheapest set up, I havent gone after lots of power, hence the low boost, all i have done is make the most out of what i had, ie, i ported the engine because its free and i can do it. Everything else i need and that is the power that it makes, I can turn the boost controller off which softens the boost curve and it made 280 at the wheels which is a bit more civilised. I havent really done any weight saving on the car either, the full cage has side impact protection and the axle is heavier than the english to take the torque. Of course the easiest way to reduce the power is by your right foot.

5. Its an RX7 turbo engine from a 2nd gen 13b turbo 2.

The wifey saved the graph as a PDF, i think its worked but you will have to tilt your head the figures are at the wheels.
