We have a local garage door opener company who took the battery manufacturers at their word and used the gel batteries upside down. Only till the
claims started coming in, they've redesigned the batteries into a sealed box and they now sit right way up. No official numbers available, but
from what I've been able to put together they had around 5% returns for leaky batteries. With 2 batteries per unit that makes it around 2.5%
chance of a leak.

Surely that'd be a 10% chance?
who says you can't drive a kit car when you're 6'5"?

All sounds good, you just have to get the CofG a little bit closer to the ground...

Neither gel batteries (as used in Burglar alarms etc) nor AGM batteries (such as the Varely Red top and the Odyssesy) are designed to be used or
charged upside down. They can be mounted in any other orientation though.

Only one of the 2 fail at a time.
re. the statement that they can't be upside down, the manufacturers said ANY way including upside down. Personally, I'd want a very good
reason to mount them any way other than flat and right way up. Seen too many of them leak over the last couple of years.
That said, there is one premium manufacturer (Japanese I think) who makes em in grey, that I have not seen a leaky example of.
