Car insurance for my 20 year old son

I am looking for insurance for my 20 yr old son. He has been driving on my daughters insurance as a named driver but now needs his own and needs to start getting no claims bonus hence dont really want to put him as a named driver with me. Been getting quotes between £1600-£2400 on a Fiesta 1.8LX Tdi (racing car-NOT) Anyone got any suggestions tried most of the well know companies. Its really annoying he is the most sensible driver I know unlike his brother and dad !!

i just keep looking around for aaaaaaaages and usualy find a good quote, use confused, money super market (all give differant quotes, then call the company direct, i did this for my MR2, Celica and the 2.0 MK Indy, think i got the indy for £750 when i was 21 last year.

no pretty way about it im afraid.

difference of the sexes

i insured my daughter at 17 for a 1.2 corsa auto , 13 months old , with direct line for 900 fully comp, the on line quote was 1150, they dropped it when i called them.

i once worked with a lass who told me to insure at the end of the month as the people you talk to are always attempting to reach a sales target and will generally always try that bit harder to gain your business.

as for the title, it seems that girls tend to be cheaper to insure for.

at 22 she is still with direct line who are consistantly the cheapest for her

hope i've helped

Interestingly after calling all the specialists and using compairson sites, I found Directline much cheaper...
I have a "hot" hatch... and paid about £1400 to insure when I was 19-20ish

Don't DirectLine and some other insurers allow you to build up no-claims as a named driver? It could be cheaper to keep him as a named driver and move your or your daughter's polidy to DL? It would mean he would have to insure with them when he got insurance in his own right.

what ever you do make sure you get some quotes with a woman as added as named driver - it can knock a bit off the price....

A few years back elephant were the best for me starting around 900 at 19 and chucking my mum and dad on definitely helped bring it down but dont do this if they have claims. Bell use the same format so i guess they are underwritten by the same company as elephant and sometimes come out cheaper.

I've also been told this, so might be worth waiting 2 weeks or so

add his mum or sister (or any other female) as a named driver, that'll bring it down too bizarrely.

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Thanks for all the suggestions I did add his sister as a named driver and it made some difference also I realised he has had his licence 3 years not 2 and a half years that made a big difference.

6 cars in our family including MK Indy the insurance companies love me!!!
