A jobs section

The economy appears to be fubared, there's a bunch of unemployed people on here, we have a massive membership. And we all sometimes hear of jobs that aren't publicly advertised.

Should we take this opportunity to have a 'jobs' section where any of us could post jobs we've seen/know of that would be potentially suitable for other Locosters.

Would be great to know that Locostbuilders had helped fellow members get started again when they maybe have a family and are stuck on the dole queue!

We could even use it to post useful hints/links on job hunting.

Any use?

Cheers,
James

EDIT: Taking Twybrow's comments on board. I'm happy for it to be a section aimed at advertising jobs rather than people advertising themselves!

Could be mate, I'm currently jobless but getting by fine with an agency.

So, if anyone wants a QA Engineer with considerable (Ford Jaguar Aston Martin Toyota BMW Honda Opel) experience I would be grateful.. as long as its within 10 miles of my house. I've tried Nissan and it just wasn't for me!

Or, I quite fancy a bit of National Express work or a steady HGV trunk.

Currently driving to Lutterworth Renault/Nissan place and collecting cages for distribution to the dealers. If I manage 5 straight days a week on this job even though the agency are tight when it comes to hourly rate I can earn more than as an engineer! Its mad! Lot more hours/week but hardly a stressful job, unlike working at Nissan!

Is it really a good idea? Are there really, so many people unemployed, and so many jobs floating around to warrant it? Plus, we have no idea what people are looking for - are you a brain surgeon out of work, or a paper boy looking for a new paper round... Too many variables.

Please don't dilute LCB - it is not a jobs website, or an IT site - it is for and all about Locosts etc. If you really want to post an intersting job, then put it in 'Anything else' or 'Madhouse'. If it is specific to a person, then send it U2U. There are counteless jobs websites/forums - lets keep that kind of discussion there. Sorry if this sounds unsymmpathetic (it really isn't meant to), but I just dont see that it is the right move for the LCB site... - just IMHO...!

Excellent idea James...

May I also suggest that if it comes about that people post with clear differentiation between jobs wanted and jobs offered. Perhaps 2 sub sections?

That's why it would be for people to advertise jobs they know of, rather than people to advertise themselves.

And there's a fair few unemployed or unhappily employed people on here.

Okay, I've just posted about the Mclaren job I know of, should I not have done so???
It is not being advertised anywhere for reasons I've said in the post. How else would I let people on here know about it? I would rather a 'friend' from LB got the job and I could help out someone who may have helped me with Locost advice than some random off the street.
It's hardly like it's not Locost related, how many people who build Locosts for a hobby would love to work for one of the worlds greatest sports car teams.
At the same time, a massive Locost fan, working in F1 could be bloody useful for the rest of us! A win/win situation!

But! I'm not a fan of diluting the the site. So as a compromise, would you support it if that section wasn't posted to the 'front page' like the madhouse section? Then it could be ignored by all those not looking for a job?

Cheers,
James

I agree that a jobs section would be a good benefit for out of work people on here. I work for a business that often advertises for reliable people with practical skills and bags of common sense. Something which most locosters have (except when it comes to BHP). There is nothing worse than being out of work.

I also agree however that sometimes some post get on my nerves. Posts about the fact that the poster has a new dog or something push more serious engineering posts of the bottom of the recent posts list.

Perhaps posts in the jobs section should not appear in the 'recent new topics' and 'topics with recent posts' sections. That would be awesome.

We could have a jobs section but I would suggest that you have to make a concious desission to go to rather than any posts to it cluttering the main opening screens.

Aren't you a happy chappy wanting to help all those, like me, get a job and hold their head up high and have pride knowing they are making a contribution to society? No your a miserable, self centred git. This place is all about helping others and enjoying ourselves. How can everyone know exactly who is out of work and what sort of job they want? I have no choice but to stay at home and look after my wife who has MS, I gave up nearly £150k a year to do this, my choice and I would do it again. But facing reality I know she maybe has 5 years left to live and it would be nice to be able to come to a place like this and see a job nearby that I could do, might not be in my field but I will have been out of work for so long I wont really care so long as I can earn my keep. Maybe you have a well paid job that you love, good for you, if you don't then find another but don't look on here because apparently you don't agree with the idea, despite being a worthwhile sujestion.

Yes - much better...! Dont get me wrong, I will bend over backwards for most on here - I just dont want LCB to become 'general interest'! The more of those people we attract, the more spam, and crappy unrelated posts appear. I think LCB is one of the very best self-policed sites out there, so the group will soon shout if it is not deemed on the right track,

Marcjagman - thank you for your very grown up and helpful remarks. I offered my opinion, in a polite and constructive way. To then call me a 'miserable, self centred git' is a cheap and low shot, that was entirely uncalled for. How on earth casn you jump to such an assumption that I am not interested in helping others. For all you know, I am charity worker, trying desperately to help the plight of people like your wife. You have no idea Marc. I await your apology.

Could be done with a simple stickied post in "Non-Car Chat"

p.s. If there are any experienced Power supply electronics design designers or SMT machine operators (wave and/or reflow) who want to work in the North East send me a U2U.
