Type 9 Issue
Hello,
After putting the gearbox back in the reverse guard seems to have stopped working. Any ideas what installation cockup I have made?

I fixed this problem on mine today!
There's a plastic collar on the selector shaft which gives the guarding. On mine, someone had fitted the stick with the collar twisted round so
that the guard wasn't engaged. I took the stick out, moved the collar round and refitted the stick. It seemed to cure my problem.
I hope I've described it well enough that you can understand.

in the attached link picture this is sometimes when the the circlip at the top of the bottom rubber boot has either got lost of come out of the groove
around the shaft.

Thanks for the replies. It looks like the plastic saddle was round the wrong way, I have now put the shouldered side on the same time side as the
reverse guide. It was too early to start it when I did this so will test later.

The plastic saddle will rotate on the selector shaft when the gear lever is removed especially if dtthe plastic is worn . If they are still available
they only cost pennies and will reduce some of the sloppiness in the gear lever if there is any when replaced

After purchasing a new saddle, which improved the gearchange  , I have come to the conclusion the plate that has the gaurd on it has be put on the
wrong way when the gearbox was stripped for servicing. Not happy that I did not spot this before putting the box and engine back in the car, also
surprised the gearbox specialists did not put the box back together as they got it.
I really hope I can get at the plate to change it round without removing the gearbox and engine.
