Can the code formatting be fixed?

I know it's probably not used that often, but everytime I have had to use the [ code ] block I have to fight it.

1) It's double spaced by default, this is ugly and makes things take too much space.
2) text within the code block is supposed to remain unformatted by the forum, but it still insists on converting bits of text into smileys

code:

There should be no smiley on the end of this line

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Not much, but it's useful when you do (or for ASCII art diagrams!).

I have a program that you can define using numbers diffferent levels so it produces an ASCII art that you stare and get 3D image.
