Useless un car related bollox

New year and a new rant!

This is a car builders forum right?

I know there is a section called "anything else" which is used as intended by most members.

To keep abreast of the new threads that are coming up all the time i tend to keep an eye on the "latest forum toipcs" box on the front page of the site.

Now i have lost interest in this site over the last month or 2 due to the amount of IMHO shite thats posted on here - useless links to this that and the other - im not having a go at people posting it in the wrong section, my rant is that it cloggs up the "latest forum topics" box which im sure im not the only one who uses this as a guuide to whats new and whats not.

Is there any way (Chris!) that we can have a "car related" Latest forum topics box and an "anything else" Latest forum topics box, this will mean the relevant topics will stay in the box for longer and your not going to click on a link from the topics box that takes you to the anything else section and some random link for a wanky game with loads of popups!

Just a suggestiopn - what do you think?

I think Mango might have something to say about this (as about 75% of said links come from him)

yeah chris, rewrite the front page to exclude latest topics from the anything else section, oh and can you link to a seperate page with a longer list of recent/new topics as the one on the front page is way too short if you haven't check the site for a couple of days or a weekend.

oh and don't give up the dayjob

Ned.

I'm only asking for this site to lean back towards what it was created for and not to clog up the informative posts with some of the junk that is posted in order for people to increase their post count

I do tend to agree, although I have enjoyed some of the games & jokes you refer to (mango ) .

I agree a longer "latest forum topics" list could be useful.

Okay, serious now

I think that the amount of jokes etc. should be cut down on, as, sometimes, there are serious posts in the 'anything else' section, that get missed because of the amount of junk.

How about an additional 'Just for fun' catagory, (not linked to the 'Latest topics'?

Get rid of the most viewed and longest running section to stop them getting dragged back up and use one of them for anything else or unrelated topics. It'll make room for another advert as well.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

petes idea is the best so far. Most of the longest and commonest threads could drown and never be missed.

maybe split the anything else section into 'anything else automotive' and 'any other stuff', with the latter not linked to the recent forum topics.

doesnt bother me too much, cos i spend so much time here that i catch most threads anyway.

just been chatting to chris whilst he makes some changes to the site.

there is now a mad house section for jokes/links/funnies. it's too time consuming for chris to manually move all the old threads over, so new threads in the correct places please

the old for sale section has been removed so as not to make the forums page too long and the maintenance and modifications sections are hopefully to be combined as they are little used.

Ned.

edit: chris has also modded the front page to make the recent threads section longer and the most viewed and longest running smaller.
