is mk2 escort 4 speed same length as 5 speed?

Is a mk2 escort 4 speed gearbox same length as a mk2 RS2000 type 9 gearbox? i.e. can the same prop be used with both?

anyone got gear ratios for both boxes?

No, have a look at Rob Lane's site, he has a gearbox section with a pic of the two 'boxes side by side.

Mk 2 RS2000 didn't have Type 9 boxes, but the prop wil have the correct spline if it is an RS2000 prop.

Best production ratios were the semi-close real 2000e alternatively the heavier duty external shifter box fitted to the Mk1/2 RS2000, and some 2 litre Capris and Cortinas, some 2 litre Grandads.

Beware however not everything that claims to be 2000e is -- in fact most boxes called by sellers 2000e aren't --- the info on the Burton site is bit misleading on this type. Only way to be sure when buying is check the first and second gear ratios by couting the the turns.

Escort MK2 box covers a lot of ground -- if you mean the standard box used in the normal models no it is shorter and has smaller splines at both ends than the type 9 used in the sierra and Capri.
