suggestion

would it be feasable to make it so only members with a certain number of posts can post in the FOR SALE section, seems to be a lot of people signing up just to post in there.

on one hand i think its a good idea on the other hand don't want to miss any bargains

i think what we need to be more aware of is those who are suspected traders who haven't registered as such with Chrisw who runs this site. A bit of self policing on reporting them or advising them to become registered traders who perhaps be a better bet. I know chris is busy and doesn't have time to check this sort of thing himself but it seems only fair for those who are signed up as registered traders/ there are a couple i've noticed in the last couple of weeks that could do with registering really.

as always imho..

i think the solution is to report unregistered traders, rather than blanket ban every new person from selling stuff.

I'd agree with that. Any cheap/free stuff should be available as it is the lo(w)cost site after all!

The problem is, How do you define a trader?

I think if you asked a dozen members you would get at least half a dozen different answers.

Personally I think traders, and the for sale section, are an asset to the site,
even though I haven't bought hardly anything from it.

very true indeed paul. More trade the better, however, the forum needs funding somehow. It undoubtedly cost money to maintain, and it wouldnt be fair if chris was out of pocket over it. Traders are the obvious target, as they obviously benefit enormously from this site - you can sell stuff with no advertising outlay!

A trader would, to me, be anyone selling stuff and making a profit regularly.

ok i'll give an example: I think the user SMB should become a trader. has been posting for just over 2 weeks, every post has been about selling his products, he's been hijacking other peoples threads and hasn't registered as a trader as far as i can see. i have now suggested in one of his posts that he gets himself registered.

he said in an old post that he had approached chris about that, maybe worth reminding him!
