Reputation system & Thanking system

On another forum that i frequent there is a reputation system in place whereby other users can show their appreciation for certain things and also show their disgust.

Also on another forum there is a thanking system whereby users can thank each other for useful posts. This may be something worth copnsidering on this fourm.

Tim not a bad idea - think you'd be better to post this as a reply to the everyones help thread rather than starting yet another new one! I'm finding it hard to keep pace with everything floating around! Oli.

Also related...

It would be nice if people posted the answer to their problem once they've bin helped to solve it.

The are far too many posts where what appears to be really useful advice has been posted... but then no conclusion to the post is drawn so people searcing for answers don't know if that info was valid or not.

If people have been kind enough to offer you advice then a few lines to say thanks xxxxxx that did the trick then we can all benefit from it... rather than just that person knowing if it solved it or not.

i think a reputation system would work well, it would encourage people to give helpful posts instead of ones that are just plain counter-productive

There's a gaming forum which gives and takes away Karma points for useful / useless help. +1 or -1. I like it.

A points to posts ratio would be a good gauge of a bulshitter!

Not sure how that could ever work properly. Who decides who gets a + point and how you loose one? I reckon ppl are getting things a bit out of hand. Its only really been mad this past week. Stop postings things like - its going down hill, I'm leaving and anything that could kick of and it'll all blow over in a week, maybe two MAX! Chris has obviously got enough on his hands trying to keep up with contributors and a like without trying to incorporate all these new complicated ideas such as moderators etc. The forums been going so long now that its not likely to come to logger heads over a couple of days worth of arguing. Just please stop encouraging it and don't bite at the bait!!! It'll all be back to normal before you know it.....Oli.
