Forum guidance suggestions - Self-removal of old/completed posts
Can I suggest adding some guidelines to various sections which might help perform some 'self-help' site maintenance.
For instance, in the for sale sections, could we suggest that posters delete their topics once the item is sold - that would remove dozens of old
topics.

If you are the originator of the thread and delete the first post, everything else is deleted with it.
Just one thing though - if you start deleting individual posts (like a certain member who recently did this  ) it really makes nonsense of everything
that remains and is just vandalism imo. Deleting redundant 'for sale' posts makes sense though.
To delete a thread click the 'edit' button in the post and then check the 'delete this message' box before clicking the
'edit post' button.

It would be easier/better if any thread older than 1 month (say) were deleted automagically from the For Sale. Wanted or Bargains elsewhere section
maybe also Mad House.
Asking people to do it themselves is doomed to at least partial failure 
Though I doubt it would affect site performance much but shouldn't hurt. I suspect it would be relatively easy to arrange if Chris gets some
free time.

Why delete them?
If you only want the latest threads you can filter them easily and in any case, the older ones are normally a couple of pages back.
Besides, keeping the old threads lets people see how much things have previously sold for and how much demand there is for things, if they look
through the older posts.

The pictures of what people are selling can also come in handy sometimes to see what a 'thackerys widget' or whatever actually looks like,
even years after the item has been sold!
