Not actually got any rusty bits to clean but a mate sent me this and thought I'd post it on here. I know there are lots of other techniques
using electrolysis etc that are probably better but this seems quite simple.

I used that method for my rear brake brackets and the result was the same.
As the parts I was cleaning were porous from the casting, after I'd soaked them in water for a while I baked them of in the gas bbq for 20
minutes, which got all of the water out of the pores of the metal and left a very fine coating of orange peril. I then gave them a quick gong over
with a wire wheel and they were perfect.
I haven;t even bothered with paint as when they rust again (painted or not, it'll happen eventually) I'll just treat them wih vinegar again
without the hassle of having to stip away any paint.
What I will say though is that you really need o steel yourself for opening the container after a few days - you WILL be gagging on your own vomit at
the stench of it!

I ran my engine with vinegar as coolant for 10 mins, you should have seen the crap that came out when I drained the system

interesting for such an everyday item, but i had no idea how you get vinegar (from the shops 
or how it was made
Just looked it up
Have used this way but can take a long time. maple syrup works too.
Washing soda/battery charger is, by a long way, the easiest and best.

Mmmm I might try that actually. My block lay empty for a while and it'd be better than bunging up the radiator with crap.
Any one think/know of a downside to this??
