hi all i am new to the site and am sorry if this in the wrong section.
I am wanting to build a locost car from scratch as in weld the chassis my self arggggg lol with the aim of building a fast road, track car and was
trying to get a few pointers rely. i have not decided on a power plant yet, was thinking along the lines of a 2.0 zetec on 45s orrrrrrrr a cossie lump
as the dona car is a sierra was thinking 3 birds with 1 stone lol dona car, engine andddd big power lol or would the chassis not be able to handle
that kind of power? ohhhhhh i have so many questions and i am more than sure that i will think or more lol, thanks for any advice and coments. will be
greatfull for you to shair ya build stories and horror stories and any recomendations. as you can tell i have never build a car lol thanks for takeing
the time to read my babble lol. tom
You have a U2U message.
cheers mate, how much do i need to expect for a budget? just at a very ruff idea
zetec on 45's, good choice there
Link
Ever considered dropping a bike engine into your chassis?
Phil
the zetec does sound like a very good option, what kind of power could i expect with the 45s? hummmmmm yeah i thought about a bike engine but things like reverse gear ect??? but i would love a bike engine as i am a bike nut lol
Power is limited by cams and head.
165bhp ish on a standard engine with carbs or Tb's and a reasonable exhaust.
Tb's, cams and head work and a good exhaust will get you 220bhp
The above is going to cost £££££
hummmmm thats not bad at all to be honest and they do sound awsome hehehe
budget should be about £250
£250 In 1992!
Chassis (scratch Built) £200 with brackets, excl tools and welder.
Engine £300+ for decent engine
Gearbox £150 Type 9 (unless you find a bargain like i did at £50.
Axle £100+
Hubs £30+ (needing new bearings and a good clean)
Prop Shaft (Made to measure) £150
Wheels £50+
Bodywork & Sheet Ali £150+
Steering Rack (New) £80
Wishbones & Bushes £200+
IVA £450
All in all, probably do-able for under £3k.
The induction raw is much louder than the exhaust
Budget, much more than you think
i guess i would need a special rear axel to run a bike engine and reverse gear, any idea on cost and where to get 1 from?
Depends where you get it from Paul.
I had almost given up looking for my £50 one, and was about to buy one off an ebay shop for £150 with a guarantee.
In terms of Axle, you dont need a special axle. The output shaft connects to the prop shaft as the normal type 9 gearbox would. The BEC guys will
know moreabout this in the BEC forum here.

is there a big cost diffrence between a car engine build vs a bike?
Yep, if a bike engine goes pop, you spend the same to replace it it or get it fixed whether it's a £500 banger or £2k busa motor.
Lolocost are doing brand spanking new crate Zetec blacktop engines for £750!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi! Paul, and welcome to the site - I'm pretty new here too, and finding that the members are very helpful - and much better at finding problems
- I thought I was pretty good at that myself!
One place I have found a lot of inspiration and assistance is the photos each person has posted - a picture paints a thousand words takes on a new
meaning!
Just click on the small black square in the left columns to access the photo lists.
And Don't be shy - ask whatever you feel you need to.
Best of all - enjoy what you are doing!
Regards, Steve.
