Sierra based
sleepless - 2/8/02 at 06:17 PM

I have a 2.0i ghia sierra sat on my drive as an MOT failure, i have semi stripped the engine as i needed the head for my other Sierra, so other than that it is complete.
A work colleague suggested that we should build one in work, but now im thinking about building it myself, i have borrowed the book, and everything in the book is Mk2 Escort....so the simply question is can i follow the book and use my Sierra parts????
Has anyone built one like this????
Any help would be great.

Thanks

Jason

Not built one myself from a sierra, however the book contains multiple donor parts. With the help of forums like this you will be ok.

Also Robin Hood's kit is based on a single donor sierra. If stuck, you could always get their build guide. . .

Bear in mind the 'book' has inaccuracies, so even with a Mk2 escort donor, the measurements are wrong and need modifying to suit!

simple answer yes, if you dont want to use irs then you can fit a capri rear axle, im building one out of all sierra parts and i have made my own IRS.

I have used the engine, gearbox and steering column from a 2.0l Sierra. The axle is from an Escort, as is the steering rack. The chassis is as per book, except the tunnel which I have modified to allow me to have the engine & gearbox as far back as possible so that I don’t have to use a gear lever extension. I’m based near Gatwick, if you’re close by, you’re welcome to come and have a look.
