does any one no if a 130 amp mig will do the frame or will more power be needed

that'll be fine for the chassis, but the general concensus is buy/use the best you can afford.

like mark says, i got a 150 amp, had no problems at all

stephen_gusterson - 3/3/04 at 03:28 PM

did mine with a puny 100a welder.

more is better tho - especially for thicker steel.

i very recently got a 150amp mig and on nearly full power it gives excellent penetration on the 3mm plate which is good for the suspension brackets, engine mounts, rollbar mounts, seat belt mounts etc etc i'm sure a slightly lower spec machine would be ok for the sq tube but i do like my penetration deep.

A 130A will do the job fine, you will probably be on full power all the time though, when on your brackets - keep the torch as near to 90 degrees to the work to get the best penetration.
