As some of you might have seen, i got my car on wheels the other day for the first time, what a great feeling that was, but one concern was that to
take out all the negative camber i had, i had to screw the camber adjusters to the point where there was only 10mm of thread in the threaded tube.
The rear suspension mounts are all roadster and i bought, what i thought, were haynes roadster wishbones. Turns out that the bottom wishbone is about
60mm longer than in the book, subsequently pushing the bottom of my wheels out meaning the top needs to be further out aswell.
What are my options? new bones or modify these?
sell them as wide-track bones and buy standard ones?
It might be more hassle than it's worth to modify them, if it's even possible.
Alternatively you could buy wide-track top bones and sell the standard ones.
How can you have wide track rear without altering the driveshafts ? Are they seating in the differential properly with the added length ?
no they are too long, as they are, but i just thought its because i was using BMW running gear and the book was made to sierra specs so i wasnt
worried about the driveshaft lengths just yet.
I dont want it to wide so i either need the standard lower bones or modify what i have,
It cant be that had to modify surely? if people make there own then it wont be that much harder chopping the ends off, taken 60mm off then re welding
the ends back on aslong as i keep it true.
noooo! let down by the wishbones!! you could replace the camber adjust with a longer one for a cheaper fix? sorry there were problems getting it on 4
wheels still chap
hope u get it sorted

Edit, where did you get the wishbones? chris g forgot to mention the bones described in the book mean the sierra driveshafts have to be shortened, so
he did an update on the haynes website that gives longer bones... you could have got the bottom ones from a company making them to the longer spec,
and the top one from a company making to the shorter spec?

got them both from casarva on ebay,
Will do some proper measurements tomorrow including my driveshafts and with the diff in, then hopefully i can do it so i dont need to lengthen my
driveshafts which would be better!
I reckon ill make a jig up and give modifying them ago... if i bugger them up i guess ill have to buy new bottom bones but it should be ok.
I did think about a longer camber asjuster but wouldnt it be putting alot of stress on it when thers 80 odd mm sticking out of the threaded tube?
(plus then my driveshafts still wouldnt fit!)
it will be a weak point but i dont know if it will be any less of a weak point than a weld in the middle of the wishbone arms... but sounds like that
would be the better option for you, i would say try and remove the old arm at its weld point, and put a whole new arm in rather than a weld in the
middle of a tube? as long as you keep the distance between the mounts the same with a jig or something?

only trouble with doing that is it makes the bush mounts closer together, i think he needs to keep them same distance apart
i was going to cut the old one at the bush tube, shorten the wishbone tube then re weld on, should have a enough space to do it
I would cut the wisbone tube but weld new bush tubes welded on.
