Hi. I have done some searching, but could not find the info I need.
This weekend I will fit the 1.8 Zetec (silvertop) from a 1993 Mondeo and MT75 gearbox into my book chassis.
The sump has not been modified, I will modify it later on.
What would be the correct height of the engine? I know normally you don't want the sump sticking under the chassis more then 1". Since my
sump has not been modified yet, what could be my reference point??
Does the height of the gearbox output shaft matter?
Even with a very short sump, the engine would have to be hung low, probably 2" below chassis, then you would still need a high nose and bonnet
or a bulge on the bonnet.

The cam pulleys have 2-3mm clearance from the bonnet on ours, and even with a cut and welded sump it hangs low below the chassis.
As Dave says, it's a very tall engine for a book chassis.
We managed to do without any holes in the bonnet though [1].
[1] We actually have a big hole in the bonnet, but it was for the carb on the crossflow
I do not mind a bulge on the bonnet. Just need a reference point for correct placement of the engine.
First I want to install the engine. Worrying about the bonnet/ nosecone can be done later...
With a 165mm sump and only 15mm below the chassis Mine just fits under the gts fiberglass which is around 3/4 to an 1" taller than book
If I ever get round to fitting mine , I plan a much shallower sump than 165mm, but it will still probably poke out of back of the nose cone..
This may help

my plan is sump 1" below, stuart taylor body work and bump on the bonnet. The stuart taylor bodywork is 1" smaller than the GTS so it should
all be nice and snug.
(once i've got through IVA with the crossflow).
