A few pictures of my chassis. It's only a couple of days work so there is not much to see yet.

mid engined single seater? looks good.
ps, this looks better though!
smaller
Thanks J. for bringing that pic to a "normal" format. It's the first time that i post photos and looking at the result it may take a
while before i do it again i think.
It's indeed a midengine BEC single seater intended to look like a formula style car.
A bit too much tube went into it i guess, especially around the cockpit, but this is my first effort and the chances are that i might need that safety
cage.
Where are your feet/pedals going to go? Looks quite short!
It "looks" short but it is'nt.The chassis is built to my size and aldo i'm rather short (5.11ft) i can stretch my legs completely without touching the front bulkhead.A front section of about 1 ft deep will be added to hold the suspension and pedal box.Pedal box is a big word cause the only pedal that will be in there is the brake pedal. All other items (throttle-clutch leaver-gear change) will be mounted on the steering wheel.
I recon that would be a lot stronger in a front ender than a locost. Looks quite rugged!

looks good to me, though that doesnt count for much. i will make one like that next, but it will be a narrow two seater.
what does it weigh right now? Seems like it will certainly be beefy enough for most any off. Engine Choice? Looks good, cheers!
I have no idea of the weight right now but it's getting harder and harder to move it around.
I will use an old 500 cc Honda dirtbike single cilinder (shaker!) engine to start with, hence the controls at the steering wheel.
Nice one! I think it's the photo's then that make it look short, I have had similar, cars which look different in photo's to when they
are in front of you!
Keep us posted!!
What's the coffin lid in there for ? Do you think it's going to kill you or something. The sides look very deep, do you sit in it low down or will the seat be raised up and the car have a dune buggy look. Is it for the road or just for fun like the Aussie plans that you can buy?
Coffin lid?If it's the space in the back that's the place were the engine is going to be.
The seat will be mounted as low as possible so the two sloping side bars are at shoulder height.
Sorry Peteff, did'nt understood the joke!Nice one!!!!
Chassis looks very good, well done.
If you modded some of the tube attachment points, I think it could be a bit stronger.
I've attached a picture showing some small tweaks that mean the tubes would share vertexes instead of attaching "mid-tube".
(The tubes marked in yellow would be moved/removed completely)
What do you think?

Thanks K. for the advize and pic with modified tube locations.I certainly will give it a good look as soon as i'm home tonight. At first glance a
few of the tubes you marked red were allready on my list of adding to the frame.
Please note that the chassis is far from complete at this stage.
Thanks guys for all the nice comments!!!!!
I agree with Keithchristie: the first thing I thought when looking at your chassis, was to change/remove some tubes. You don't need to add more,
just change according to his drawing.
Keep up the good work, and keep us posted.
Did take a good look at the proposed changes and must agree that they will improve the strenght of the chassis.
So i guess this weekend will be "hacksaw weekend"
Anymore suggestions?
Thanks !
Suggestions? i have one, dont bother with a hacksawm get yourself a sawzall, it's faster, and alot easier.
I got one of those too Derf, nevertheless did all the cutting for the chassis with the hacksaw. It's good for your arms
Last winter I built a Pirahna using some plans I got from australia, and you have a very similar frame, not much different at all.
I believe that it was built by a company called the edge
Hello derf, never heard of the Piranha or the company you mention.
The chassis as seen on the photo is a compilation of what i've seen on this forum and my own idea of how a single seater formula style racecar
should look.
Is it possible to post a picture of the car you have built please?
Now i have at least the feeling that i'm on the right track....on the other hand,it's not because two idiots have the same idea that the
idea is a good one!
Not mine, mine was pretty crooked compared to this one, but you can get a good idea of it.
Thanks for the photo Derf !
I can see similar lines in both chassis' but mine will be a "low rider" were the Piranha is a sort of offroad buggy.
I'm very interested in the front suspension though!
I know it is'nt exactly what is in use for racing cars but i have some idea's.
Any chance that you have drawings of the front suspension ?
Thanks in advance!
