using box for suspension brackets
luke - 13/2/10 at 02:16 PM

Well after now 3 failed attempts at wishbone brackets I'm looking at alternatives to bending them.

I need a wishbone bracket with 45mm internal width so was looking at 50mm square box with a 2.5mm wall and just chop off one of the sides.

Question is as the book dictates 3mm flat bar will 2.5mm be too thin?

Cheers

Luke

Box, its how I made all mine. I am sure it was 3mm wall.

drill the holes all the way through and make sure they are square then just cut the face with the seam in it out and dress.

It wasnt the best job as they took 1/2 hour each but they where proper locost and didnt cost any cash

For less than £2 each I'd be talking to 3GE.

Get these for 30 quid you cant go wrong.

If you get 2" x1/8 box, and cut out the welded side (having drilled your hols first), round off, deburr, you will have 50.8mm-6.35mm=44.45mm, and you can bend them open by the remaining 0.55mm.

BUT - life is too short for all that (I know I made my own as above!)

Buy a set, you only need 12 at the front and 14 at the rear for a book build

I've had a set of lazer cut ones off ebay, I discovered the haynes roadster plans which they are cut from have the holes about 8mm higher up on the bracket. This pushes the top wishbones out about 8mm each side and wasn't sure if there was that much adjustment within the steering rack to compensate so didn't use them.

Why stop there:
