Are "large head rivets" essential for floor panels?
wood85 - 21/4/10 at 07:37 PM

I've just started building and have found that the 4.8mm blind rivets for my floor are not large head rivets. Will this cause any issues? Isn't the silkaflex doing most of the adhesion bit?

My guess is they will be fine and the balance of adhesion and sealing is probably 50-50 with the sikaflex.

And of course, Hi and welcome to the forum.

Big head rivets are cra* the heads come off in time use 3/16 small head rivets

I used standard pop rivets but they were made from stainless steel have only used large head ones for fixing body panels to spread the load a little bit more on the GRP.

Oh and by the way if your chassis is painted or coated the adhesive is only as strong as the adhesion of the paint/coating to the metal so dont skimp on rivets, I spaced mine at 50mm

AD54SB are the rivets to use, I'm using them for everything; sides, tunnel, footwells, floor etc.
