SAAB Powered WLR Build
PeterV - 6/9/10 at 08:18 PM

Hi all

First post here and what a great site this is. I'm building a SAAB powered AGM WLR.

RWD SAAB 2.0 Turbo with R28 gearbox.

and have just finished building the full rolling chassis. After all this building I now discover this site, oh the pain that may have been saved Still onwards and upwards......

Finished Chassis with Floor & Splitter

Now it's time to put the bodywork on.

The link to the full build story is here http://www.gaugingsystems.co.uk/Saabatage

All advice, comments and ideas welcome especially concerning any known chassis IVA issues I may run head long into!

Good choices... look forward to reading more about it!

Great website and build. It looks as if you're a bit ahead of me with my Cossie powered WLR. I need to post a few more pics.

love the idea for laying out the loom for a test

great read

Excellent Build Diary. ~Welcome.

PeterV - 6/9/10 at 08:53 PM

Ah the garage doors... mmm yes. Shall we just say an expensive compromise reached with my Le Mans loving wife. She also loves a nice front drive, garage, garden etc. etc. etc. She's not so keen on a motorised climbing frame on the font drive Answer garage doors that hide stuff.

Lol . Good answer Pete .You'll fit in real well on here

These SAAB's require wiring that melts the little grey cells. Everything is linked to the ECU. Could'nt think of any other way to debug it all.

It still makes the kid and his mates laugh when they see it all working, keeps them amused for hours

Hi and welcome,

I may have to pick your brains too as I'm building a Saab Turbo-powered GBS Zero and almost at the point of attaching everything onto the freshly installed engine....then the wiring!

I'm also in Essex.

Cheers
Nick

Your welcome to pick what’s left of my brain. I have some very detailed wiring diagrams for the Trionic 5 set up if you need them.

Nice sump chop on you motor was considering that option for a while but had trouble finding folk keen enough to give it a go. Me, a welding torch and oil impregnated alloy were never going to play nice. Ended up with a higher ride hight to fix the problem.

Hi and welcome
Great web buikd site and good if not complex (electricy) choice of motor. My daily is a 9-3 turbo

MK9R - 7/9/10 at 06:46 AM

welcome, nice website!!! And a really interesting choice of engine!!

dan8400 - 7/9/10 at 07:18 AM

Welcome to the forum.

Nice build, great website. I'd love to build one of those one day. You look like you're doing a really thorough job. Very nice work indeed

Oooo i'll watch with interest, just picked up a 2.3 HOT lump for my Manta, couldn't resist at £100 on the bay

Yep a tad testy in the electrickery dept. but £ per BHP per KG just screams "Use me !".
I have had a 900 2 x 9-3's Coups, still got one for wifey (and ECU testing but don't tell her) and a VERY hot Abbott 9-5 2.3T Estate work horse. Each one just gets better than the last so hopefully this project will be the creme de la creme (or what ever that is in Swedish)

Pezza you won't go wrong with the big bang B234, it's a real smooth power house. It was just to much torque and a little to tall for my project. I needed the the slightly shorter B204 and the tyres to do more than a tank full of miles

Even with the 2.0T I've got some work to do on the T5 software, to help get the power down nicley in such a light weight car. I also don't want to trash to many gearboxes

I seem to spend a lot of time talking to my ECU, my wife finds this odd..... my laptop doesn’t

flibble - 7/9/10 at 05:45 PM

Cool, another SAAB'er does look a very nice build indeed. I had the same thinking with the choice of 2.0 over the 2.3 due to keeping the torque down, i'm pretty sure even the 2.0 will destroy my english axle in short order

P.S. if anyone fancies a 2.3T in the the order of 350ish BHP for around £100 my friend has one sitting around going mouldy (still in the car which needs some welding in the arches to pass an MOT, everything else is spot on).

PeterV - 7/9/10 at 05:48 PM

Just had an email flood in from Alan at AGM. My body work is ready so I will be picking it up Saturday 11/09 if I can get a flatbed trailor organised in time.

Mmm, tell me more.. what model, coupe or estate etc

ReMan - 8/9/10 at 08:25 PM

Presumably the Saab injuns could be run on an aftermarket ECU-Megasquirtinjoltin thang if one desired, without the additional commpications of 10 different ECU for every different function on the car?
And be a bit more manageable foer the non-programmer!!

Yes they can, but to be honest a few extra wires is worth it coz there are many many different maps available, all for free. A laptop running something like T5Suite (or T7Suite) can download these to the motors brain.

Have your laptop with you when U arrive at a track day and go from soft 250BHP to an aggressive 300BHP set up
Then change it back before u drive home with no programming knowledge and completely free!!

Makes U think.... mmm nice..... trouble is that lured me into learning all about the T5 maps, probably a bad move as I now have brain fade

Trionic is one hell of a flexible system with a enthusiastic group of gurus who will help at every step.

PeterV - 12/9/10 at 10:25 AM

The Beast will be a Monster

The Face of of the BEAST

After a 4 hour hack down the M1 the bodywork is safely home.

Actually in context it's ULTRA COOL!

She's gonna 'av a very sexy butt.

Truth be told, I'm a very happy bunny

So I guess it's time to move to the Bodywork forum...........

MK9R - 13/9/10 at 09:04 PM

I have been informed by a fellow racer whose been reading your site (DanB) that your front upper wish bones are on upside down.

PeterV - 13/9/10 at 09:23 PM

Yes they were in the early pics coz the lower mounts were in the wrong place. Needed to get the thing together until I could get the lower wishbones corrected and I didn't want to trash my shinny new shocks
