Bolt on seatbelt mounts

My new build has a very low chassis. The only part that higher than the centre of the steering wheel is the roll hoop. because of this, my seatbelt top mount will be on the roll hoop. To make storage over the winter easier I'm thinking about making the roll hoop a bolt on affair so that it can be removed and the whole thing fitted in a small space.

Provided the fixings are adequate, Is there anything that the MSVA inspector can object to about this idea?

Don't think so - westfield used to bolt on the hoop, the haynes roadster bolts on the rear stays. They did have to make a change so they used two bolts per stay instead of one due to a tester objecting to one.

The Haynes Roadster design has its seat belt mounts on the roll bar. This means it falls under extra scrutiny for the IVA test as it becomes a seat belt mount. If seat belt mounts are on the chassis then the roll bar doesn't require any beefing up.

My Fury went through SVA with a bolt on roll bar and belts mounted to that.

At what point do seat belts become a requirement for MSVA? Bikes don't need them and many trikes don't have them.

If you sit on a saddle with one leg on either side, you don't need a seat belt, otherwise you do.

I'm going to weld a plate in the end of each leg of the hoop (4 in all) with a 1/2" thread. It should be plenty strong enough and quite neat with the bolts being hidden underneath. There'll only be 1 bolt on each leg but then there's only one bolt at the end of the seatbelt so it should be OK I'd have thought.

Might be worth phoning the IVA centre and discussing it with them - i can see them objecting due to it being one bolt (when they objected to the roaster having one bolt on each rear stay).

It does sound a neat way of doing it though.
