I need to join two 22mm tubes and can't justify buying a proper tube notcher for 2 joints, any suggestions on a locost version?
There's some software about somewhere that let's you print out the shape. You cut the shape out on paper with scissors, then you wrap the paper around the tube and it shows you where to cut with angle grinder or whatever.
Quality! Will have a google. Any idea what it was called?
Holesaw in the drill press. Clamp the tubes to an angle plate.
Software is called 'Tubemitre'.
Cheers,
Nev.

there is better software for making bike frames - i can't remember what its called unfortunately. Try lots of googles for tube mitre, bike frame etc and you'll find it. Does gussets and all sorts.
I used it, excellent little program.
Just attack it with your angle grinder and edge up to a good fit.
A felt marker is good for refining where the bits need to come off.
Won't take long at all, epsecially in 22mm.
I did a couple of braces onto a 48mm roll bar and other than being time consuming, it was just about patience.
How about a hacksaw and round file OLD SCHOOL
Before I got my notcher I used to do it with a BIG half round file.

Tubemitre, free download, as said before.
linky to bike one that does lots of fancy stuff -> http://www.cycle-frames.com/bicycle-frame-tubing/Tabbed-Tube-Notcher.html
2nd the by hand method. If its only one joint a tube notcher is not worth it. I've helped do a couple of chassis solely made of round tube with a decent hacksaw and large (good quality) radius round file.

cheers all, used tubemitre and it worked a treat
anyone got anything that will make a template, same as tubemitre, but for round tube meeting a flat plate at a specific angle ?
its been so long since i did tech drawing at skool, i may struggle to remember how to do it by hand!

Oh come on now... measure the angle difference between the round tube and square plate, draw matching angle on round tube, cut. Presto.
