What Paint ?
richard - 9/1/11 at 07:53 PM

What hand paint would people recommend for protecting the inside of the floor pans on my steel floor locost. As i start preperations for the first MOT i have noticed surface rust under the rubber mats where wet feet have been for the past 3 years.
The steel has been painted previously with celulose spray paint so want some thing that will not react, i am looking ideally for satin black, but def black.
cheers
Richard.

Id ditch the rubber mats as well. Rubber sweats.

I used a cheap black metal paint from Aldi. Worked fine. I also fitted alloy chequer plate with adhesive to drivers side foot well,
looks a treat.

Clean up the rusty areas and use an etch primer so the new painy has a chance of sticking.
There are some very tough paints about, including 2 pack stuff for chassis and so on (rustoleum springs to mind) which are epoxy based.
Not so sure about hammerite these days, it hasn't been so good in the last 10years or so as the "original" stuff. Probably environmentally friendly now

I stripped my car back to the bare chassis last winter, shotblasted the chassis to get rid of the crap powder coating it had and gave it a couple of coats of Por 15 and a couple of Hardnose paint, Finish was good with no brush marks and can be touched up if needed, so far there is no signs of any problems
