I'm nearlly at the point of needing to paint my chassis.
The last one I did I bought Etchweld primer which was quite expensive but a good product, I then top coated it with standard black metal paint all out
of can's. It looked realy nice but was quite expensive £80+ probably and I don't think I had enough layers.
I have the cheapo aldi aircompressor that came with the standard accessories as part of the pack.
I've never tried painting with it but happy to give it a go if it will work out more cost effective.
So has anyone done their chassis using their air compressor? how much paint and any recommendations for primer and top coat? or should I stick with
cans.
The other option is the brush or roll on paint, I'm dubious but some people claim good results, any pics??
Thanks
M
only problem with spraying with a compressor is, the chassis is mostly holes. , a small spray gun with a narrow spray pattern might be a good idea.
get them from ebay for about a tenner. i got one with a 125ml cup, would need re-filling a lot, but has a good narrow spray on it.
also, not tried, but i've heard of it, and it should work, but don't know how well. try and charge the gun with a negative charge (which
*should* negatively charge the paint passing through the gun), and the chassis with a positive charge, and opposits attract. in theory. not tried it,
so don't know how effective it is, or what equipment can be used to charge.
something like this?
GRAVITY FED MINI SPRAYGUN / TOUCH UP GUN 0.8 NOZZLE on eBay (end time 22-Jan-11 11:18:35 GMT)
or this
Mini Jet HVLP Gravity Spray Gun Smart Repair on eBay (end time 05-Feb-11 09:31:58 GMT)
yep, the 2nd one is the actual one i bought, from the same seller. its pretty good
you might find the cup a bit small for a chassis though, but the bigger ones tend to spray a lot wider

I used hammerite, with a brush.
I bought the hugspaint mini jet gun to touch my bike tank up after an accident and it is a brilliant little gun but for a chassis I would brush or roller two coats of enamel. When all the bodywork is on you don't see that much of the chassis anyway.
