Hi,

Should the transmission tunnel have a steel section in the footwell area or is it normal to panel the whole lot in alluminium?

Thanks
Dan

Haynes chassis has a steel panel in there, help protect against flywheel mishaps I presume.

I have to add to what Ben said

Mine is a book built chassis with steel floor footwells and tunnel sides, although the tunnel top is alui with self tappers to hole it in place

I personly would not feel safe with alui floor tunnel footwells

I looked at the haynes book and couldn't figure why the steel was only on the drivers side - do pasengers feet not deserve any protection???

The way that haynes book shows the panel does give an extra 20mm of footwell space so i guess thats one advantage.
