roll bar back stay possitioning
luke - 13/11/11 at 10:34 PM

Hi all,

Is there any limitations on how far inwards the bottom of the roll bar back stays can go? I dont want to weld them in and then find i cant fit the tank between them later on.

Any pictures or dimensions would be helpful.

Luke

Mine come down at an angle into the bottom corners of the rear most chassis.

Tank went in ok with no back panel fitted. Would of been a bit of a struggle with panel on!

This is how I did mine. I used a Spitfire fuel tank, and managed to get it in/out after I had fitted the rear panel.

If you need your roll over structure to comply with MSA regs (i.e. for competition) then the backstays have to make an angle of at least 30 degrees with the vertical.

With a se7en type car, you'll struggle to get the 30degrees.

Just put the backstays as far back as is practical.

Nev.

Hi

Try looking for 45mm x 2.5mm ( MSA spec) rather than 3mm.

Cheers Matt

might be worth a u2u to welderman (joe) to see if he's got any and he's not a million miles from you.

cheers matt,

I had those dimensions off the material that ive had the roll bar made from (made by OPB). I want to add a second cross bar to attach the seatbelts to, and i read that it had to be the same dimension tubing as the rollbar for strength. However, i guess when welded at both ends theres no way the inspector will be able to tell the difference, especially such a small difference.

adithorp, Thanks i will try welderman.

Cheers,

Luke
