Hello,
I started this week building a Tiger cat e1.
The kit is from 2001 and was at the rolling chassis stage.
There are some rust spots on the chassis, but not enough to justify sandblasting and new powder coating.
That will be done for rear and front axle parts.
So, whats the best way to correct those rust spots ?
Sanding, primer anti rust paint and black paint for finish ?
Or is a rust inhibitor enough ?
Gerardo
Spots of rust are inevitable.
Sand, prime and paint the same colour as chassis.
A drop of Kurust or similar would not be a bad idea. It converts the rust from Unstable Iron Oxide to a more stable form of "rust"
Usually Phosphoric acid based substances, so take care when using them, ie eye protection etc (i.e. read the instructions)
Rust spots on Kits Carws are generally know and "Tom Jones Syndrome"
Its Not Unusual
Remember what ever you are doing, the finish will only be as good as the preparation work.
Have fun, take your time, and do things right, the end result will be better, and saves doing it again!
