My steel arrived today.

Very exciting, close to starting the build of the car.

I will start a build blog once I actually start.

The Blue Peter method.

Is that one you prepared earlier in the garage?

Don't think much of the build table supports!!

Yeah, I remember that phase, I thought "I've definitely lost it now!"

Friends would look at me with an expression of concern and sympathy when I said "I'm gonna build a car"

You have to complete it just to prove you weren't nuts!!!

+1 for the Blue Peter approach

Is that one an insurance in case you screw up on the self-built chassis?

Is it a cardboard mockup?

Mock up.

The white thing that looks like a locost chassis is actually my mock up I started making nearly two years ago, its made from 25 x 25mm wood, glued with a hot glue gun and screwed together, I used it in conjunction with my 2D CAD drawings. It has confused many people and I accidentally didn’t tell my best mates for about 6months it was wood, it was a funny joke at the time! Found it a lot easier to actually sit in something to visual the car, plus some of the major changes I did to it cost nothing, would have been a disaster if it had been my steel I’d messed up.

My car is a middy and hence, no actual plans to follow, going to take a weeks holiday in October to actually begin the car, I have a few jobs left to finish, the legs of my build table is one, painting the floor another.

I know its taken a long time to get this far, but last year I spent the majority of the summer ( and the best part of £800!) getting the garage insulated and new doors etc… I didn’t want to start in metal until I was at least 80% happy with the overall design, I’m probably at about 85% complete now with the layout of the major parts, I wanted a bit of flexibility in the design to allow creativity as I go, but also find it a bit boring drawing every nut and bolt…. I just don’t have that much time in my life. So fingers crossed as I go it will come good.

I am sure if I get stuck you lot will be able to steer me. In an ideal world I’d like a rolling chassis this time next year. Which should be doable as I have all the running gear pretty much already, fiat coupe rear hubs and Cortina MK5 fronts….

Make a quick library and then just copy and paste the nut/bolt 'block' to where you want and then just stretch bolt to the right length. Saves loads of time

Loving the Blue Peter approach and can't wait for the build log.
