Help - what is a bucket bush?
Padstar - 28/12/12 at 01:09 PM

As title. I need one as part of the vodou design that I am using for my chassis but can't find anywhere that sells them.

It needs an outer radios of 16.85 inner wall radius of 15.50. 25mm deep with a 3mm base plate.

Any ideas?

Sorry but Im in one of those moods......

Whats vodou?

More info needed I think?

TimC - 28/12/12 at 01:37 PM

AFAIK there are three bucket bushes in the picture below.

Imagine a bit of tube welded to a washer - now imagine that piece turned out of solid on a lathe.

Padstar - 28/12/12 at 01:59 PM

That's the one. Can a washer be welded to a tube? Or do u know where I can purchase them as a solid?

Is that part of the diff carrier on the MX5 based Haynes from Vodou?

If so it might be worth gtting some replacement solid bushes made up or from Roadrunner

Padstar - 28/12/12 at 02:13 PM

They are the ones. Do u know anyone that sells them? Is that roadrunners a fabrication company?

rdodger - 28/12/12 at 02:22 PM

Road Runner racing

Kit manufacturer MX based 7.

In the name of clarity, I mean the large rubber bush in the diff arms. They are floppy rubber and can be replaced with solid to stop it flopping about. It will make it easier to mount the front then.

So why can you not use top hat bushes top and bottom as in the standard wishbone ones, could always trim the brim off?

Sorry we had our wires crossed. They form part of the chassis that I believe the diff is held by (haven't got that far yet). I will try and post the drawing shortly so u can see what I mean. If a washer and tube can be used it would be handy and mean I can complete the chassis over the weekend.

TimC - 28/12/12 at 03:44 PM

Dave at www.trackdevelopments.co.uk will be able to do what you want via mail-order. Tell him I sent you.

ETA: I'm not sure what part of your chassis you are using it for but I wouldn't use a washer and tube for anything structural.

Sorry. Washer and tube dea was a bit stupid looking back on it

I believe that this bush holds the diff mounting from the MX5 so these are reciever brackets that will have to hold the full weight of the diff.

rdodger - 28/12/12 at 09:03 PM

Whatever happened to Vodou?

Padstar - 30/12/12 at 10:16 AM

I think they had a few personal problems and shelved the project but I do beluevebthatbthe bodywork is now being developed again and may be available next year.

If not I will have to use someone else's.

I wouldn't say the tube and washer ideas was rubbish, that's what i've done. I

t looks a little different because I've made the main frame Locost width.

How will you support the nose of the diff?

Do you intend to leave the standard diff bushes?

Padstar - 31/12/12 at 03:28 PM

Shutter what design r u using. The diff mounting looks very similar to the vodou that I am using.

I have someone now fabricating the 2 bucket bushes for me out of a single bit if metal so that issue is now sorted.

Has anyone had problems with fitting rear body panels to the tube sections? Some people have said its better to use square box but I have not found any threads to back this up?

scutter - 31/12/12 at 03:29 PM

There is one more cross brace to go under the nose. I was planing to fit standard new bushes on a cost front. mind just rechecked the Bay, I'll be fitting the proflex ones at £25 a set.

It is a adaptation of the Vudoo plans.

Have a look at Roadrunner Racing. They make a MX5 based car. They make solid alloy diff bushes so you can solid mount it. From what I have read movement in the diff is causing problems for the diff mounts and cracking the chassis.
