Chassis Floor and Sides
ChrisS - 6/10/04 at 12:30 PM

Im just about to order some sheet ally for the sides of my locost and wondered what the recomended thickness for the sheet should be to clad with as a final outer layer.

Also i wondered what anyones thoughts were on using ally checker plate as a flooring material. Obviously i realise the edges would need milling off to create a nice clean join to the chassis bottom. Again what thickness should i be using.

Many thanks

I think someone said that cheque plate was very expensive! I've got some little bits scavenged for a passenger foot rest

I used 16g for mine and am thinking of going a bit thinner for my next one, possibly 18g. Chequer plate is expensive for flooring.

Pete:

Did you have any problems with the floor drumming, vibrations, etc.? I’m all set to buy 16 ga 6061 but would love to get away with 18 ga 6061! So you suppose this is the stuff for the job?

I did a 16g steel floor welded in. 18g aluminium sounds a bit thin for a floor but you might get away with extra bracing to rivet to.
